The weather has put a temporary stop to the sailing nightclub Spektrum Scandinavia’ new adventure in the cold north. “The Maiden voyage” is called off this week, a frozen ”Limfjord” may put sailors’ lives at risk.
Bound for Oslo
Spektrum Scandinavia was scheduled to quay in Oslo this weekend. But due to heavy ice it’s far from possible.”It’s really a shame that the weather conditions are like they are right now, it’s the coldest February in approx. 20 years and we have 2,500 confirmed guests waiting anxiously at us in Oslo Friday, and now there’s nothing else to do but to ask them to wait until next weekend. It’s a different game when you it’s a boat, but we we will in return give them an experience for life next Friday” says Kasper M. de Thurah from Scandinavia Spectrum Management. The nightclub is docked in Oslo next week and opens on Friday 4 March, until the end of World Cup skiing wich is held in Oslo in these days.
Got stuck in the ice at the first attempt
It could have gone horribly wrong with towing the floating nightclub this week. For a test sail Tuesday the tug boat got stuck in the ice.
Such an incident could have been deadly for both crew and the towing boat with the big ferry. “Should it happen that a tug was stuck with the big ship towing, the tug would have Scandinavia’s largest nightclub of 2,800 tons in the neck. In other words, it is not without great danger when we go through the ice and we always choose safety first, though it’s frustrating having to postpone the opening,” says Kasper M. de Thurah from Spectrum Scandinavia.
New adventures in Scandinavia
After 20 years in the port of Aarhus as a popular nightclub, the trip to Oslo for the now 59 year old ferry is the first trip outside Denmark. The ship has been completely renovated and there has been made cabins for employees who live and work aboard. “It will become an experience of a lifetime to get around in Scandinavia with this historic ship. We are looking forward to visit 10 cities during 2011 with our approximately 30 man crew. It’ll be festive, but there is also plenty of hard work and challenges many people dont think about,” says Kasper M. de Thurah from Spectrum Scandinavia. The nightclub is expected in 2011, among other things, to visit Copenhagen, Bergen, Båstad, Stavanger and many other, still secret cities.
